Allow me to shed light on this issue.
Glassy stare is actually the same as fixed pupil. As such, it is defined as a pupil that is unresponsive to stimuli.
Often, glassy stare or fixed pupil is associated with SBS (Shaken Baby Syndrome) or cerebral issues. Although there are materials that says fixed pupils or glassy stare is actually a milder manifestation of SBS injury, however, considering the age of the client, it is perhaps more appropriate to consider this client as acutely ill and emergent action is necessary.
If one will apply strategy in determining the answer, this is perhaps the more appropriate way to attack the options.
a.acutely ill and categorized acutely emergent
b.not acutely ill and categorizednon emergent (situation is suggestive of being acutely ill, hence eliminate this option)
(Options c and d are acutally the same in essence, if it is not emergent, then it must be a step lower, that is, it is urgent. Hence, these two options should be eliminated as well)
c.acutely ill and categorized urgent
d.acutely ill and categorized non emergent
Since the three options were eliminated (B,C,D), the best possible answer would be acutely ill and acutely emergent (option A).
Hope this would help.
